About Bingham
Though maintaining a population of less than 1,000, Bingham is a regional commercial and employment center for northern Somerset County. The town consists of 35 square miles of primarily forested land. The town is located along U.S. 201, 23 miles north of Skowhegan. Fishing, ATV trail riding, Snowmobile trails, hiking, fall foliage, kayaking, river rafting and bird watching (Osprey's are common around the Kennebec River). The boat landing is located at the end of Lander Avenue, off Route 201. Neighboring Towns also offer Baker Mountain Ski Area, Wyman Lake swimming and boating area and Benedict Arnold Trail. Bingham Union Library is located at 297 Main Street. Library hours are Monday 2-5 p.m., Tuesday 2-7 p.m., Wednesday 2-5 p.m., and Thursday 2-5 p.m. Knitting Group on Tuesdays (all ages & abilities) from 6-7:30 p.m. The Library Board meets the second Tuesday of the month at 3:30 p.m. Phone: (207) 672-3002. The library has 3 public access computers and wireless internet. Interlibrary loans are available. A Knitting Group meets on Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. There are also children's activities and a friend's group. Baker Mountain Ski Area had an exceptional 2011. This non-profit organization is operated by pass holders that volunteer their time. The Mountain offers 3 beginner runs and 2 intermediate using a T-bar system to the top. During February vacation the volunteers offer a ski school for kids (hours TBA). The lift tickets are only $8 for the day or night. Hours of Operation: Friday 5-9 p.m., Saturday 11 am. to 8 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Ski Area is located at 353 Canada Road, Moscow ME. Moose Alley Riders ATV Club holds meetings on the 2nd Thursday of each month from April through November at 7 p.m. and conducts ATV rides departing from the Bingham Trailhead. For additional info including club activities, trail maps, trail closures and photo albums visit the club's website. |
